The number of foreigners in Czechia is steadily growing

Sounds like a typical tram ride for the majority of people who are living in the Czech Republic.
People from all over the world come to the Czech Republic for work, owing to the fact that a big number of companies are constantly opening, as well as for studies. The country has some of the well-known universities to offer, such as Charles University, which according to Masters Portal, places 201st at Academic Ranking of World Universities.
As expected, many graduates try to find a job after their studies to prolong their stay in the Czech Republic. According to the latest data of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), the number of foreigners in the Czech Republic in September 2017 was 516 983.
An interesting fact is that in the period of 10 years, from September 2007 to September 2017, the number of foreigners increased for 140 773.
The biggest number of foreigners is coming from Ukraine, 22.25%; following up are Czech Republic’s neighbor Slovaks, 21.4%; and Vietnamese 11.5%. After them, there are Russians with 7%; Germans with 4%; and the Polish minority with 3.97%.
The remaining 29.85% come from countries such as Italy, Turkey, Brazil, Greece, USA, and others.
In September 2016, while the whole population of the country amounts to 10.56 million according to the World Bank, the number of foreigners was 496 413. This number makes 4.7% of the population.
This number is higher than it was in the previous 5 years.
In 2011, the percentage of foreigners was 3.88% and in 2012 the number went to 4.17%
A small decrease was recorded in 2013 – 4.16% – before the next year’s jump to 4.26%, which became 4.37% in 2015.
One important reason for these constantly increasing numbers is that many international companies are opening in big cities of the country, such as Prague and Brno, and seeking multilingual workers.
The number of job positions that don’t require the Czech language is very high and almost every professional can find easily a place to work.
From the statistical data of CZSO, it can be observed that in the recent years, more people started coming to the Czech Republic and looking for permanent residence.
In September 2007, the number of foreigners who had permanent residence was smaller than the number of another type of residence: 153 511 permanent and 222 699 temporary residents.
After 10 years, the number of permanent residents increased. In September 2017, the number of permanent residences was 280 408, while of other – temporary residences – 236 575.
Prague has the largest concentration of foreigners.
Following the City of Prague are: the Central Bohemian Region (Středočeský kraj), South Bohemian Region (Jihočeský kraj), Ústí nad Labem Region or Ústecký Region and of course South Moravian Region (Jihomoravsky).
The lowest concentration of foreigners is in the Zlín Region and Vysočina Regions.
The Czech Republic a beautiful country with a long history and highest human development index in Central and Eastern Europe.
In addition to that, it was ranked as the third most peaceful country in Europe.
